DC is rebooting in September. All comics start over to #1. Even Action Comics and Detective Comics. Never mind both of those have been publishing continually since 1938 and 1937 respectively. [Superman was in issue #1, Batman was not introduced until #27.) Action Comics just published its 900th issue. But the hell with 70 years of history, it's not like anyone actually cares.

Now as far as I know right now all of the rest of the comics I read are being cancelled by DC. What I find a little funny was two years ago I was up to what? 40-50 bucks a month on comics and thanks to DC cancelling titles down I'm down to 10 at most, and well for a while none at all.

1) I am pissed that people keep referring to superfluousness characters being erased. Especially that asshole that put up a picture of Connor Hawke. [Note: This was done by a guy who by his own admission has been reading comics for two years.] I know people complain there are four Flashes! Four Green Lanterns! But in my mind this is a great thing because I only like two of the Lanterns! I think it's great because people who like Hal [I have no idea] can have their stupid fucking Hal comic and I can have my Guy loves Kyle comic. [Or now the Guy loves punching people comic.] I think it's a bad idea to have one comic that focuses on one character because there are always going to be people who hate that character or aren't interested and you'll run out of stories to tell too fast. If you have a few to work with, you can rotate them and insert more character interaction.

Note: If Tim Drake is erased. I don't know what I am going to do. Something bad. [Note: we have no real idea of what will happen. This is an internet rumor. The rumor they are going to erase Guy is crap because Guy is on the cover of the new Global Justice team and also that's fucking moronic.]

ETA: All of the Lanterns are fine. Hal will be in the GL comic. Guy and John will be in the Corp comic written by Tomasi. :) Kyle will head up the Crayola Corp.

2) Everyone has been saying they should be for kids - or [oh noes!] there will be no comics for you to read and bitch about, ignoring the fact that if comics become even more for kids I will still have no comics to read and bitch about because I will no longer want to read them. [Superhero mainstream wise obvsly.] I have stated in the past I wanted them to go in the opposite direction and improve their quality and maturity level which is how I think manga became more successful. There are comics specifically for children and it's not my understanding that they sell all that well. [Most people don't even seem to know they exist?] Personally I think we should find a middle ground here and start passing the Tiny Titans and Supergirl comics out to larger markets like Wal-mart and grocery store racks, and leave the other comics to comic book stores, so that we can get new fans in children and then they grow up and come to comic book stores for comics that grow up with them. I understand that this is a long term plan, and that businesses have no patience for that.

3) What I heard was this was a "hostile" reboot forced by Warner Brothers because Marvel keeps beating DC. I have no idea why they think making their comics less convulsed will win more fans over Marvel because Marvel is actually more fucked up than DC. I suppose the idea is if they simplify them, more people who say I want to get into comics will go ahead and pick it up. I kind of doubt it because of the reputation comics generally have here and the fact that comics are still very short and not enclosed stories [like manga.] I mean as far as I can see the movies didn't flock people to comics, so it's not like people don't know they exist.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know, because to be honest look at what DC appears to be doing, still slowly moving back to the Silver Age, which was their stated goal all along. [Of Johns and Morrison, et al...]
I'm thinking they're using WB's mandate to be dicks once again and remake their childhoods. Too bad if they get rid of Wally and Bart - the Flash comic will be dead in the water. I like Barry, but A) the comic is boring B) Everyone else fucking hates that he is alive or hates him C) Barry is not interesting enough to run a comic on his own. I'm sorry but he's not. I don't know what Hal is doing in his comic, but everyone my age sees their Lantern as either Guy or Kyle as far as I know. I hate Hal [as everyone knows] and will disavow all Green Lantern knowledge ever if it's down to one fucking Lantern: Hal.

4) Most of the people I speak with about comics are waiting for Marvel and DC to fail anyway. I've thought for the past five years that DC was trying to get out of the business of writing comics because they felt it was too big of a hassle, not realizing that no matter how shitty their comics, no matter how much they lie, and fuck with people, people still read comics because that is their hobby. Bitching about comics is what you do. If they make them worse, you just get to bitch more! [The idea behind the failure being they would then license the characters out to people who want to make a comic about X or Y.]

5) I don't actually see comics going back to where they were before Marvel and DC fucked up like crazy in the 90s. I don't really think kids are going to jump on comics again. I think it worked in the 60s and 70s because kids were a little less sophisticated than they are now. I don't think dumbing stories down further is really going to be appealing to kids. I could be wrong. Mine didn't get into comics until he was about 17 and now reads really well-written comics like Y and Fables.

6) In the meantime, they're folding Wildstorm into DC which we've already seen with Countdown. My vote is Midnighter and Apollo adopt Jason Todd. My other vote is they are in the Nightwing comic drawn by Marcus To with Cass Cain as Nightwing and Tim Drake as Flamebird. He can marry Kon, and they can adopt Bart. That way I only have to read the one comic. I need to work Cissie in there somehow.

7) This is all lies. If DC really wanted more customers, they wouldn't be putting out books about Firestorm, Capt. Atom, and Aquaman. I love Mr. Terrific but come on...no one knows who the fuck these characters are.
Booster Gold needs to be the face of DC. A guy in a suit who fucks around with time travel while being only kind of smart, and is a vast attention whore, and likes money and practical jokes. I like his new suit design! Booster was on Smallville, the JLU had an entire episode about him, he was in the Brave and Bold, he's a big deal in the online video game!

BOOSTER GOLD!

8) FUCK YOUNG JUSTICE.

I only took two things from this:

1.
Seriously. I don't read comics (yet! I'm gonna start soon!) but this seems like such an epically bad idea that I just cannot understand it. Does shit like this happen often?

2. You have a kid? Huh. The more you know! lol

1) hahahaha. I am taking that /gif and making out with it. I LOVE YOU ROSENBAUM.

2) I do not have a child. I have a little brother I co-raised because his parents were busy not doing it frequently.

Everyone loves Rosey! :D

Ah, okay. I misunderstood then when you said "mine didn't start til he was 17." I wish my brother would read comics. Or anything well-written for that matter.

Exactly.

Sorry! I thought I had talked about my brother before. I might not have! I am not old enough to have a 17 year old. [He's 21 now anyways.] I don't think. Wait, yes I am technically am. OMFG. BRB CRYING.

What does your brother read? Could you reference things that are well-written that are closer to his interests? I could try to help if you want.

I'm not really in a position to say something is well-written when compared to something else (I read some pretty questionable stuff myself), but he really likes the Alex Rider books. I don't know anything about them though. I'm a fan of Michael Crichton, and I know my bro read Jurassic Park for AR one marking period. He's 14, btw. He's also read one or two of the Harry Potter books, but I think he got a little bored because he had already seen the movies. He just doesn't do a lot of reading, tbh. He'd much rather play video games or sports than read a book if he doesn't have to.

Because I adore you and I feel mostly the same about this as you do, I will add my say on each of these points. Also, LOVE.

1- The so called superfluousness characters that he was referring too? People liked them. We're not all like the fuckers who whined, pissed, moaned and acted like total babies when Hal died. Fuck all, I LOVE Kyle. I loved that he was the only Green Lantern for awhile. I think it's shit that this is happening. Although I know for a fact Guy Gardner is NOT going away. He has his own book now. But if Tim goes? There will be riots.

2- Dude. I don't get why it has to be 'for the children'. Sounds like a stupid excuse. If you want to cater to them, publish titles for kids. Duh. Or do like movies do and rate them.

3- Fuck the Sliver Age. They were good, sure, but still. That was then, this is now. Fuck that.

4- I hate that attitude. We don't want our characters to be farmed out to whoever and whatever. If they truly feel that way, they need to get the fuck out and let people who are passionate about the properties in.

5- Exactly. Thank you. Don't talk down to people. We're not all stupid, fuckers.

6- YES! Yes to all of this. Apollo/Midnighter should adopt Jason. They'd be better fathers. Cassie as Nightwing, Time as Flamebird, Kon as his Super husband, Bart being Bart, and Cissie could be Arrowette again for her own reasons and no one else's. (I liked her in the skirt. I'm a bastard that way)

7- BOOSTER GOLD IS WIN!

8- FUCK YOUNG JUSTICE

Thanks! And thank you.

1 - I love Kyle too. Kyle is the Green Lantern I started out with because I didn't read GL comics as a kid. TBH I thought the comics where Hal died were good comics. Him sacrificial himself to destroy the suneater was awesome. It's not like he wasn't still in comics. I didn't realize understand the problem.

2 - It's because everyone compares how comics were in the Golden and Silver age when kids read them by the millions and now when about 500,000 older people read them. The idea is if they go back to making comics for children it will save comics. I have yet to see anyone show actual proof this would work. I honestly doubt it. I think it would be better to remove the stigma of 'comics are kids' from comics and market them to more adults.

The thinking in DC seems to be either Johns is now CCO and he wants comics to be the way he was a kid, or just if they bring back the Silver Age then comics will be like they were during the Silver Age. Never mind that society is completely different now.

3 - I don't like most of the stuff during the Silver Age. I don't think it would appeal to kids now so it's not a workable change anyway as you say.

4 - This is fans saying that. I might actually be okay with it. Maybe actual fans would have a shot at making good comics? Their corporate policies are wrecking comics and driving out any creative artists in comics.

5 - Most people have dropped comics because they are badly written. This doesn't seem to be addressed by anyone. Morrison scares off as many people as he brings in and that's the closest they've come. Countdown, Death of the New Gods, and Final Crisis shows how incredibly bad their company is at functioning. They had to shove New Gods out into non-canon and pretend Countdown was unrelated to Final Crisis, and most of Final Crisis related back to the Soldiers of Victory and not actual cross-comic continuity. That is a sign of a company that can not handle their own lines. Their answer was not better communication, instead it was to fire even more people, drive out almost all of the tiny amt. of decent writers left and let the one guy who was writing 50% of their comic lines take over as CCO. Gross.

6 - Cissie was awesome in a skirt. Which is apparently banned now? No more fishnets for Black Canary. :(

7 - FUCK YEAH. I really don't understand why Jurgens doesn't have more cred in comics. Not only did he write the best selling comic of what? all time? but he created the only non-legacy comic book character in the past thirty years in DC to have not one, but two main comic lines. Not to mention, he writes and draws them.

8 - I WILL SAY THIS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. How do you make a Kon-el I don't like? This hurts me.

I don't read enough comics to make heads, tails or tentacles of 90% of what you said up there, but I have to agree all this rebooting nonsense from both Marvel & DC is 1) just plain stupid & 2) smells like some sort of cash grab to me.

I'm going to stick to the occasional graphic novel, just to spare myself the pain, aggravation & $$$.

That's Random Gal.

I'm pretty sure the only person currently beating him is Seth Green's underground vault. [I have the Flash, Harley, Booster, Beetle, other Beetle, Clark, Lex, Frodo, Merry, and many mini-mates. Also, a specially made for me bunny version of Kyle Rayner which may or may not count as an action figure. If I felt shame I would be with you.]

I dunno, I've seen some people w/ some pretty impressive collections (why someone needs 15+ of the same figure eludes me but =shrug= )

Yup, ol' Tentacleface came w/ 2 victims (I didn't want to spring for the package of the extra 5 vics). They're the same shape & size approx. of LEGO figures, just w/out arms. That's why I'm collecting the LEGO figures - to build MLC dioramas... =eg=

I don't subscribe to any comics right now, so it's not hitting as close to home for me, so I'm just like, a) eyerolling at DC's bullshit as usual, and b) waiting until they DO IT so I can find out how badly they fucked up all the characters I YES STILL LOVE although I am not buying the new material rn. Anyway then at least I will know if I should consider that date The End of My DC Canon or something, ahem.

Also, #7: GR8 IDEA

Also, #8: Thx for answering my questions about that cartoon noise, ha. I uh, still hadn't given it a go, maybe I saw some posts in your journal about it or maybe I saw stuff elsewhere that rubbed me wrong, but I couldn't remember why I hadn't given it a go, but I trust your judgment, so obvsly that is why.
